Nourishing your little ninjas
A busy lifestyle can make creating healthy habits even more of a challenge when you're short on time. Luckily, there are some simple (and sneaky!) ways that you can keep your kids' eating on track.
Manda G says: 'Changing the words you use to describe veggies can work wonders. X-Ray Vision Carrots, Power Punch Broccoli, Tiny Tasty Tree Tops and Silly Dilly Green Beans are new favourites on our dinner plates!'
Julie M told us, 'We do the gardening together; it is amazing to see how excited my kids get when we 'harvest' fresh cherry tomatoes, squash, zucchini, snow peas, green beans, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries... They pick things and eat them then and there. It's real fast food!'
And at Tegan B's house: 'We LOVE making fun creations, using our imagination each day. We create happy, fun ideas with such a huge variety of healthy nourishing foods, like star-shaped fruit skewers, vegetable sushi or hummus with veggie sticks.'
For @shellabrations, this is a learning opportunity for the kids. Her suggestion is: 'Make food fun! Explain how different colours have different benefits and that's why eating the rainbow can make you feel SO good!'
On the other hand, Chandelle L has a cunning plan. 'I'm as stealthy as a ninja and hide veggies in other foods!' she tells us. (Love your work Chandelle!)
At @takitaki_rumbahh's place, it's all about turning nutritious fruit and veggies into treats.
We love making smoothie desserts!', she says. 'My kids and I create healthy and delicious smoothies using different fruits and vegetable concoctions for ""dessert"". The kids love coming up with ideas together, but the rule is that it must always include one vegetable! Spinach is great with the right combination!'
We also love this reminder from @shari_shares: 'You're the role model to your children's eating habits! So chomp on that carrot in front of the kids and let them know how good it tastes.'
And how lovely is this idea, from @molly_isabel, who says: 'We sing this song before every meal:
""For the golden corn, the apples and the trees,
The golden sun and the honey from the bees,
For fruits and nuts and berries we find along the way
We praise and give lots of thanks every day'.
